Sangiovese Grosso from Svoltacarrozze
In the Crete Senesi, in Vescovado di Murlo (SI), the Farm Svoltacarrozze (www.svoltacarrozze.it) of the Meoni family has created since 2001 a wine of the area, with an unmistakably Tuscan flavor. The area is situated between Chianti, Montalcino and Montepulciano, between the ancient Etruscan ruins and vineyards most important of Italy. Each year the vintage is different, based on the yield and weather conditions. Great wine is the '03, but now the bottles are scarce, very important is also the year '04, so as to strive at the cellar Pinchiorri Enoteca from Florence. Deep intense red color, strong aromas of blackberry with a touch of licorice, very full-bodied and slightly silky. Refined, with hints extremely long, you can appreciate the deep flavor of oak, with a flavor of wood due to aging in oak casks for more than three years. The wine is made from Sangiovese Grosso (90%), the same as the Brunello di Montalcino, and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%) with an alcohol volume of 13.5%. It can be described almost as a Supertuscan, although its natural characteristics make it a wine itself, especially considering its versatility by year. We look forward to what 2005 vintage will bring.
