At the Trauttmansdorff Castle between wine and botanical wonders
Among the events in South Tyrol from August to October, is scheduled the visit (daily) at the Gardens of Sissi and at Versoaln at the Katzenzungen Castle in Prissiano, with wine tastings.
The Trauttmansdorff Gardens (which served as home to Princess Sissi for the periods of winter), lying on the eastern edges of the city of Merano, Alto Adige, arouse enthusiasm and admiration for their wide range of landscapes: they have, indeed, more than 80 botanical environments, with plants coming from all over the world. It is a popular tourist destination, and from August to October will be the stage of really special visits: wine lovers and gourmets can live here, a unique experience. The package "Gardens and wine" includes a visit to the vine "Versoaln" at Katzenzungen Castle in Prissiano (between Bolzano and Merano), but also a guided tour of the Trauttmansdorff Gardens. The tasting, accompanied by a presentation of the South Tyrolean wine, plan to taste the wine of "Versoaln”, the largest and oldest vine in Europe, over 350 years old, whose branches extend over 350 square meters. This particular vine, with extremely rugged leaves, is an autochthonous quality (originating in the place since ancient times): the Versoaln, grown over a traditional pergola of chestnut, grows on the North Slope near a wall at Katzenzungen Castle. The wine is an excellent white wine, fruity and with delicate structure - made from the cellar of the Experimental Center Laimburg - you can buy its special bottle accompanied by a certificate of identity.
